How to prepare a request

A specific request leads to fewer follow-up questions. Before you reach out, gather these:

1. Your city and ZIP code.
2. A list of the items or materials, and anything heavy, wet, broken or oversized.
3. Where the items are, how many stairs are in the way and where a truck or container could be placed.
4. Photos of the items and the path out, if you can take them.
5. A preferred date and a backup day. A date is a preference until it is confirmed.

What to confirm before you agree to work

A request is not a booking. Before agreeing to any work, confirm the scope, what the estimate covers, which items are included, the timing and how payment will work.

For a dumpster rental, also confirm the container size, rental period, included weight and any extra-day or overweight charges. For an estate cleanout, agree on a written scope and who authorizes removal.

Items that need another route

Paint, solvents, fuel, pesticides, propane and other pressurized tanks, batteries, medical waste and asbestos usually need a different disposal route. Contact your county solid-waste or household hazardous waste program for current drop-off rules, and flag any unusual item in your request.
